Mohera Narimetla - Teacher
Mohera has been a part of Upasana for the last 15 years and has completed her "Bhushan II" diploma. Outside of Upasana, Mohera is a student at Tennessee Technological University, double majoring in chemical engineering and math, with a minor in chemistry. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, podcasts, and animal activism.
Sharmistha has achieved her Prabhakar in Hindustani Vocal from Allahbad University under the guidance of Smt. Seema Dasgupta at Suratirtha Music School in Rourkela, India. Her advanced training in Raag and Gaiki in Kirana Gharana was accomplished under the guidance of Guru Arun Debnath of Delhi, India. She has performed in local TV channels in India and has received many awards and accolades for the same. She started performing in the US during her stay in Tulsa, OK in 2004, and has since performed in Nashville, TN, Atlanta, GA and Kansas City, MO.
She has dedicated her career to promoting the appreciation of Kathak dance. Sonia has been professionally trained not only in Kathak, but in Bharatanatyam and Ballet as well. She has extensive experience performing in reputable events such as various Mid America Bengali Conferences in St Louis, Chicago and Nashville as well as Kansas City’s annual Bengali Conference. She has toured extensively throughout the United States with her Guruji Pandit Sontosh Maharaj in cities such as Nashville, Memphis, Louisville, and Indianapolis. Sonia has also had the experience of performing in prestigious venues in India such as the Arabindo Ashram and Children’s Theatre in Kolkata, India. Sonia is involved in various community outreach programs and is a Guest Teacher at Nashville Ballet since the summer of 2013.
Ishani Ganguly - Teacher
Ishani joined Upasana at the age of 6 and began her intensive training in kathak under Sonia Chaudhuri. Ishani has been an active and committed member of Upasana Dance Company since 2012. Since 2014, Ishani has been assistant teaching for the beginner kathak classes at Upasana. This past summer, she completed her Samarpan, the first ever of its kind at Upasana. She is currently a student at Belmont University. She plans to pursue her passion for kathak from this point onwards at a professional level.
Rajni Gupta - Teacher
Born and raised in India, Rajni has always been passionate about dance, even as a child. During her school years, she learned folk and semi-classical dance forms and performed with her local dance team. Now, she has lived in the Nashville area for over 20 years, where she got involved with Upasana in 2003 while enrolling her first daughter in kathak classes. Over time, she and her other 2 daughters joined Upasana kathak classes as well. With her experience in dance, Rajni began assistant teaching and also choreographing for Upasana. Currently, she teaches the adult beginner kathak class and does choreography for some groups. She has completed her "Bhushan II" diploma with Upasana. In the community, Rajni has served Indian organizations since 2006, eventually serving as President of the Friends of India Association of Murfreesboro from 2012-2014 as well as President of the India Association of Nashville in 2018.
